Live Traditional music, singing and dancing was enjoyed by all as the Eddie Duffy and Mick Hoy Tradfest returned to Derrygonnelly over the weekend of October 7 to 9.

Kicking off on Friday, October 7, the festival opening concert, which was hosted in Derrygonnelly Community Centre, seen performances from a number of local musicians and singers and All-Ireland Fleadh winners along with a CD launch from The Queally Sisters. The Maid of Carrick was also unveiled on the evening with Shauna Elliott taking on the role this year.

The opening concert was followed by a session trail throughout Derrygonnelly, in Cosy Bar, Old Pals Bar and Doogies Bar.

The festival continued on the Saturday with Irish language and 'try a musical instrument' taster sessions. There was also a singing session hosted by Rosie Stewart in Cosy Bar at 3pm and a junior session in the community centre at 4pm on the day.

Festivities came to a close on Sunday with Irish music, Irish dancing, set dancing and singing from 3pm on the day.

Speaking to The Impartial Reporter, secretary of the Eddie Duffy and Mick Hoy Tradfest organising committee, Michelle McGovern, who is the granddaughter of the late Traditional musician Mick Hoy, was delighted to see the festival up and running again following a break due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

She said: "It's great to be back and to celebrate because the festival is in memory of my granddad Mick, so that's my reason for being involved.

"We've had a great team of volunteers this year who worked all weekend and were just brilliant.

"Not to mention all our sponsors, the festival wouldn't take place without them so they are very valuable to us," Michelle told this newspaper.
