The decision to decentralise the medical records and medical secretariat departments at the Erne Hospital in Enniskillen has certainly reaped rewards – with the recent collection of a prestigious United Kingdom award.

The project, which involved setting up Specialty Teams at ward and out-patient level, was entered into a major competition, entitled ‘Healthcare Management Award’.

The award is organised by the Health Service Journal, which is a weekly National Health Service magazine.

The competition is open to all health care providers throughout the United Kingdom and this year there was a total of more than 190 entries.

After the preliminary heats, the Erne Hospital was delighted to learn that it had achieved a place in the finals in London.

With additional sponsorship from an international drug company, four representatives of the project were able to travel to the national finals in the insurance Hall in London at the end of last month.

At the announcement of award winners during a gala evening, the team members were excited to learn that they had achieved second place in the Acute category.

The other categories were Community and Health Service Management.

Health Minister, Dr. Brian Mawhinney, congratulated the team and presented the members with a certificate and a cheque for £500 in recognition of their achievement.
