As part of its Cost-of-Living initiatives, Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is providing financial support of £20,000 to Easilink Community Transport and Fermanagh Rural Transport.

The cost-of-living crisis is having an impact on everyone and one concern for many is the significant increase in fuel costs.

The financial support provided to the local Community Transport companies aims to mitigate the increased cost of fuel and enable them to continue to provide much needed services. Both companies provide affordable, accessible and efficient transport for those who would otherwise be socially or rurally isolated, particularly our older residents and individuals with disabilities or health conditions.

Speaking about the financial support for the local transport companies, Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Barry McElduff said: “I would encourage anyone who is eligible to avail of the transport services to ensure you can continue to attend your necessary medical appointments and activities. This is important to help to maintain a good level of health and wellbeing.”

Jason Donaghy from Fermanagh Rural Transport also commented and said: “Fermanagh Community Transport welcomes the funding from Fermanagh and Omagh District Council through it’s Cost of Living Support Initiatives. We will aim to widen access to our transport services in close collaboration with the Council to those individuals and communities who may well be finding it much harder to get out and about due to the cost-of-living crisis.”
