A mental health pilot project at St Kevin’s College, Lisnaskea has been announced as the latest project to be funded by the Donnelly Group Foundation, which recently reopened for applications following the pandemic.

The school’s Nurture Room Project is designed to address the mental health struggles experienced by young people and to raise awareness that ‘it is okay not to be okay’.

Donnelly Group Foundation provided funding for a wheelchair adapted table, chairs, bookcases, toys, soft furnishings, books, games and sensory objects which are being used to promote emotional and physical wellbeing of students across all year groups.

Roisin Donnelly, Donnelly Group Foundation spokesperson, said: “At Donnelly Group, we are committed to investing significant time and resources towards bettering our local communities.

“The Nurture Room Project at St Kevin’s College provides a dedicated space for students to take some time out and focus on their personal wellbeing, and we understand how important resources such as this are to promoting positive mental health amongst young people.

“St Kevin’s College is one of four schools across Northern Ireland selected to take part in the NI Pilot Programme in Trauma Informed schools. The results of this pilot scheme will be used by the Department of Education to inform and develop its new Mental Health Strategy for schools.

“We are very pleased to lend our support to St Kevin’s College through the Foundation and look forward to continuing to help schools, sports teams, charity initiatives and educational campaigns right across Northern Ireland.”
