A book corner has been established at Enniskillen bus depot, opening a new chapter for users of the busy transport hub.

Providing a range of reading options, the book corner will provide a great resource for those using the service at the bus depot, whether for a short journey or a longer one, and will certainly attract plenty of interest from book-lovers and readers from across Fermanagh, or passing through.

Great enthusiasm

To launch the book corner, members of staff from Translink, volunteers from Air Ambulance NI, and a representative of Fermanagh Bookswap gathered at the bus station, where they expressed great enthusiasm for the opportunities that the book corner could bring.

There is a mixtures of genres available, and there will certainly be something for everyone. The books are expected to come and go, much like their readers, with plenty of great titles likely to return to be enjoyed by new readers.

Donations are invited to be left with ticket office staff at the bus station, and will be forwarded to Translink’s charity partner, Air Ambulance Northern Ireland (AANI), with readers thus helping it to carry out its vital lifesaving work all across Northern Ireland.

Explaining the thought behind the initiative, a spokesperson for Translink said: “Staff at Enniskillen bus station have installed a book corner that gives passengers an opportunity to choose a book to read on their journeys.

“A local group, Fermanagh Book Swappers, donated a large consignment of novels, as did some of our local Ulsterbus drivers.

“Everyone is welcome to browse and take a book, with all donations going to Translink’s charity partner, AANI. The Book Corner is already proving to be very successful in Enniskillen bus station.”

AANI is the charity that provides the Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) for Northern Ireland, together with partners at the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service.

The service brings urgent medical assistance to anywhere in the province, operating seven days a week for 12 hours per day.

AANI can get to anywhere in Northern Ireland in approximately 25 minutes.
