As part of its cost-of-living initiatives, Fermanagh and Omagh District Council has provided £500 each to more than 40 community organisations across the district to support the 'Warm Spaces' initiative.

Warm Spaces are free to use, warm, safe places where residents can expect a friendly and inclusive welcome.

People can attend a Warm Space on their own or with family or friends, and enjoy talking to others and maybe enjoy some light refreshments and recreational activities, including crafts, gentle exercise or board games.

Speaking about the Warm Spaces initiative, the Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Barry McElduff, said: “It was a great idea for the Council to provide financial assistance for these Warm Spaces.

"The Council has recognised the cost of living pressures being experienced by many residents and their concerns, particularly in relation to soaring energy costs.

"It also listened to local community groups, explaining the type of help they would particularly welcome and favour.

"The Warm Spaces are community-led, safe and welcoming spaces providing warmth and an opportunity to socialise.

"They are also helping to combat loneliness and isolation as well.”

A total of 42 community premises have registered with the Council as a Warm Space, with a good geographical spread across the district.

In addition to these warm spaces, the five libraries in the district also serve as a Warm Space.

Details of the Warm Spaces throughout the Council area, including their opening times and what they offer, are available on the Council website at www.fermanaghomagh.com.
