Accommodation providers and restaurants in the county represented Fermanagh well at the recent Northern Ireland Tourism Awards in Belfast.

Enniskillen’s Belmore Court Motel scooped up the first Information and Communication Technology Initiative of the Year Award last Thursday night at the Ramada Hotel.

Meanwhile Enniskillen restaurants Scoffs and the Gallery were highly commended in the Flavour of Northern Ireland category. The Cedars Guesthouse and Bistro at Castle Archdale received a similar accolade in the B&B/Guesthouse of the year category.

Owner/Manager of the Belmore Court Motel Terry McCartney has been running the business since 1995. The Enniskillen motel consists of 30 apartments. All rooms are en-suite and 26 of them also have mini kitchens.

Mr. McCartney established the motel domain name and the site has developed greatly since its initial year. It now contains a real time online booking facility, guest book with guests’ comments, enquiry form, e-mail registration, special offers and useful links sections.

“Some 15 per cent of our business is through our website,” he explained.

His customers from Northern Ireland are displaying an increasing amount of internet savvy, booking on a Friday morning for a weekend in Fermanagh. And numbers of customers are steadily increasing.

He markets the motel by drawing potential customers’ attention to the range of attractions that are on Fermanagh’s calendar – such as the current Fermanagh Feis. The award also acknowledges the motel’s computerised reservation system and payroll and accounts.
