All of the fun of St. Patrick’s Day was shared with town and country alike as the villages of Fermanagh put on a fabulous display on Friday alongside those taking place in larger urban centres.

The largest celebration outside of Enniskillen took place in Belleek, where an impressive parade was enjoyed by onlookers.

More than 40 floats, vintage cars, community groups and clubs put on an impressive display for the village’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade, much to the enjoyment of the 2,000-strong audience.

The parade was led by Moybrone Pipe Band, with further live music and entertainment provided by members of Belleek CCE, Tom Flanagan, Sean Sands, Paul McManus, Pat Johnson and Irish dancers Aoife Hoey, Leah and Ella Dorrian.

One of the event organisers, Michelle Gallagher, said: “The Belleek Development and Heritage Group and the St. Patrick’s Day Crew were delighted with the success of the event.

“Entirely planned and delivered by committed volunteers, it is encouraging to see Belleek’s community spirit returning. We will rest now and in time plan our next event.”

Elsewhere on the day, a cross-Border parade took place in Belcoo and Blacklion, with a small but determined parade organised as young children took to their ride-on tractors, bicycles, scooters and other toys to take part.

Families enjoyed the festivities on a smaller scale than elsewhere in the county, but smiles were as plentiful as they were at other celebrations in Fermanagh with some great community spirit on show.

Finally, Derrygonnelly held a parade and community celebration to mark the day.

There was lots on offer to entertain the community, including balloon modelling, face painting and the popular Party Bees, as well as a host of other activities on the day.

The smiling faces from the photographs show that even the day’s poor weather could not dampen the spirits of local people.
