A group of children from various schools in the county who planted daffodil bulbs last autumn on the roadside banks at the Killyhevlin Hotel, Enniskillen, were invited out again to see how their daffodils were blooming.
But on Monday morning as the rain was lashing down incessantly, the children and their teachers had instead to hurry into the shelter of the foyer of the hotel to meet the Chairman of Fermanagh Council, Mr. Caldwell McClaughry, who had also taken part in the planting ceremony in October; and Liz Ritchie, from the Marie Curie Cancer organisation, which had arranged the provision of the “Host of Golden Daffodils” which now beautify and enhance the approach to the island town.
Almost 100 boys and girls helped to plant the bulbs at Enniskillen in one of the six “Fields of Hope” all around Northern Ireland in order to raise funds for the work of the charity in the province and to provide an everlasting reminder of the continuing fight against cancer and the vital work necessary to assist families.
At the same time more daffodils were planted at Lisnaskea and Irvinestown.
