A chef on his way home from work has been handed a fine and penalty points after he was detected travelling more than 30mph over the legal limit.
On October 23, 2022 police on mobile patrol of the A4 Belfast Road detected a car travelling at 85mph at Tamlaght being driven by Mark Ian Winter (28), of Lough Shore Meadows, Enniskillen. The speed limit is 50mph in this area.
Winter's solicitor, Bernard Corrigan, told Enniskillen Magistrates Court on Monday this was not a "normal detection" as the police had been following along behind the defendant and were "playing catch up", and estimated the speed Winter was travelling at.
Mr. Corrigan said his client did not necessarily accept he was travelling at 85mph, but he was in excess of the speed limit, the court heard.
He added this happened at midnight and no traffic was inconvenienced, and Winter was on his way home from work as a chef.
For excess speed, Winter received three penalty points and an £80 fine.
