A cocktail, “The Foxy Lady”, a concoction by a Fermanagh College student created quite a stir at a recent competition in Portrush.
Seventeen-year-old Howard Flanagan, from Enniskillen, a first year student on the BTEC National Diploma in management catering, gained first place in the cocktail shaking contest at the recent “Gladicaters” competition held in the Northern Ireland Hotel and Catering College at Portrush.
His cocktail, an orange-coloured creation, with a hint of red, proved a winner among the colleges participating at the event in the County Antrim seaside town, including Ulster University, Jordanstown; Shannon College of Management; Galway R.T.C.; and Cathal Brugha College of Catering, Dublin and the home college.
Howard, a former pupil of St. Joseph’s Secondary School, said it was his first time to take part in a cocktail-shaking competition and admitted that he was really surprised at his success.
Vodka, Galliano, Cointreau, pure orange, and a dash of Grenadine proved the right ingredients for the successful cocktail served up in a decorated sling glass, accompanied with a slice of apple.
