A “terrible error” is how a man who was stopped by police driving a car without insurance, L plates and was an unaccompanied learner driver described the incident in court on Monday.

David Lee Taylor (59), with an address of Drumbeg, Enniskillen, was stopped at the Killadeas Road, Enniskillen on March 11, 2022, Enniskillen Magistrates Court heard.

At around 7pm, police stopped the defendant driving a Peugeot 308 which was not displaying L plates, and there was no other person in the car.

Taylor was asked to produce his driving licence and insurance but was unable to do so, and was ordered to produce it within seven days at a police station.

However, checks showed he failed to do so, while further checks showed he only had a provisional driving licence, the court heard.

Taylor, who was representing himself at Enniskillen Magistrates Court on Monday, said he made a “terrible error” when driving.

He was convicted of failing to produce a driving licence, having no insurance, no L plates displayed and being an unaccompanied L driver.

In total for the offences, he received six penalty points, and £450 in fines.
