A man who was performing handbrakes turns in an Irvinestown car park has been convicted with driving without due care and attention.

It was heard on July 17, 2022, at around 9.35pm police were on mobile patrol of Irvinestown when they were travelling towards the Necarne Estate.

Officers saw a cloud of dust coming from a car park beside the road, Enniskillen Magistrates Court heard on Monday.

When they entered the car park, they observed a vehicle doing handbrake turns at high-speed, causing the clouds of dust.

There were cars and a lorry parked in the car park and members of the public present, the court heard.

When the driver – Conrad McKeown (20), with an address of Annaghnaboe Road, Coalisland, Co. Tyrone – saw police he stopped the car abruptly and got out.

He was spoken to and cautioned by police, but he made no reply, the court further heard.

McKeown's solicitor, Jarlath Faloon, told the court his client had been at a lorry run in Irvinestown on the evening in question.

He pointed out his client is currently disqualified from driving in relation to another matter, and that was due to end in August of this year.

He said McKeown was anxious this disqualification was not extended.

Deputy District Judge Liam McStay gave McKeown a one-month disqualification and £200 fine.

Judge McStay asked Mr. Faloon to reinforce with his client that he was fortunate he was not facing a dangerous driving charge.
