To mark the Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla, Derryclavin Pipe Band held a special celebration parade in Lisbellaw on Friday, May 5.

The event – one of the first to mark the Coronation in the most westerly part of the United Kingdom – was broadcast live from Lisbellaw by Sarah O’Kane for UTV.

Entertainment included Lisbellaw Primary School Choir, Erne Highland Dancers, Fermanagh Fun Farm and face painting, with the arrival of Derryclavin’s very own ‘Charles and Camilla’ to add to the fun and excitement.

Derryclavin Pipe Band were grateful to these groups for adding an “extra-special touch” to their Coronation event, and also thanked Johnny Nelson for his chauffeuring duties.

A large turnout of 20 bands, joined by floats from local groups in the community and children in fancy dress, all took part in a parade through the village whilst large crowds of spectators lined the streets to enjoy the fun and festivities.

A spokesperson for Derryclavin Pipe Band said: “[The band] would like to thank Lisbellaw Veterans Group and Derryclavin LOL 729 members for marshalling their parade, and to the PSNI for policing on the night to ensure everyone was safe.

“Also a huge thank-you to Lisbellaw Parish Church for the use of the Parish Centre hall and car park, and to Fermanagh and Omagh District Council for funding towards this Coronation event.

“Finally, a great big thank-you to all the bands, floats, groups within the local community and spectators who came along to make the event such a successful and memorable evening.”
