Seskinore Rural Community Group is welcoming some special guests for their upcoming 5K Fun Run and Walk in Seskinore Forest at 11am on Saturday, May 13 – their second such event, which starts and ends at the forest.

Fresh from completing the London Marathon, ‘Team Kerr’ will make the journey from Annahilt to take part in the popular local event, with the running family – comprising mum Sandra, dad David and son Aaron – attending to support the event, and help support their main goal of promoting inclusion, and seeing assisted running become a common sight in road races.

Aaron was born with chronic renal failure and has had a kidney transplant. He has also been diagnosed with Cerebal Palsy, epilepsy and a chromosome disorder, and communicates solely through body language.

They were able to compete in the London Marathon for the first time in October, 2022 when the organisers changed the rules to make the event more inclusive.

At the recent 2023 London Marathon, they received the Spirit of London Marathon Award for their role in making this change a reality.

Those attending the Seskinore 5K Run will get an opportunity to hear, at first hand, this special family’s remarkable story.

Registration for the Seskinore event is available at www.njuko.net/seskinore_forest_5K_2023 or through the link on the AthleticsNI website, with all welcome to take part in the community-minded event at their own pace. Participants will receive a specially designed wooden medal, and the first 400 entrants will receive a Seskinore Forest snood.

Further information is available on the group’s Facebook page, with parking for the 11am event available at Seskinore Forest itself.
