A man was arrested on suspicion of driving when unfit through drink or drugs and on suspicion of dangerous driving after the vehicle he was driving collided with a tree on the Irvinestown to Enniskillen road in the early hours of Friday, May 12.

Two days later, in the early hours of Sunday, May 14, it was reported that the same vehicle – which had been left awaiting recovery – was on fire.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Police attended the scene of a one-vehicle road traffic collision in Irvinestown in the early hours of Friday, May 12.

“At approximately 3.20am, a report was received that a car had collided with a tree on the [Irvinestown to] Enniskillen road.

“One man was arrested on suspicion of driving when unfit through drink or drugs and on suspicion of dangerous driving.

“He has since been released on bail.”

The PSNI spokesperson continued: “On Sunday, May 14, police received a further report that at approximately 2.30am the same car, which had been left awaiting recovery, was on fire.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the cause of the blaze and police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious or anyone with any dash-cam or CCTV footage to get in touch, quoting reference 139 of 12/05/23.”
