It was a day of mixed emotions as the winners and losers on the first day of counting at the Fermanagh and Omagh District Council elections discovered their fate.

Friday saw four DEAs votes counted in Enniskillen, Erne East, Mid Tyrone and West Tyrone.

Sinn Féin had an impressive return on the first day of counting with 13 out of their 14 candidates being returned.

But the historic moment of the day saw the Alliance Party return their first ever Fermanagh Councillor as Eddie Roofe was elected in Enniskillen on the fifth count.

His election came alongside that of Sinn Féin's Tommy Maguire and after the election the DUP's Keith Elliott.

While Roy Crawford (UUP), Robert Irvine (UUP) and Dermot Browne (SF) were also elected.

It also came at a cost for the SDLP with outgoing Councillor, Paul Blake being eliminated. Cross-Community Labour Alternative outgoing Councillor, Donal O'Cofaigh was also eliminated.

Jill Mahon (DUP), Donald Crawford (TUV-No Sea Border) and Andrea McManus (SF) also lost out.

In the Tyrone DEAs, Sinn Féin made it a 100 per cent return as they took four seats in both Mid and West Tyrone DEAs.

West Tyrone was the first DEA to be completed as Glenn Campbell, Ann-Marie Donnelly, Stephen McCann and Colette McNulty reaching quota for Sinn Féin. Mark Buchanan of the DUP and the UUP's Allan Rainey were also re-elected.

In Mid-Tyrone, Sinn Féin's Padraigin Kelly, Anne-Marie Fitzgerald and Patrick Withers were re-elected along with new Councillor Roisin Devine Gallagher.

They were joined by DUP's Shirley Hawkes and Bernard McGrath of the SDLP.

Independent candidate, Emmet McAleer, failed to get re-elected.

Saturday will see Erne West, Erne North and Omagh DEAs votes being counted.
