Sruth na hÉirne (the flow of the Erne), the Enniskillen based Irish language grouping are organising their first ever community based Irish language course which will be held in Enniskillen for one day on Saturday, June 3 at Fermanagh House.

Aimed at all levels of Irish language learners from starters to medium level learners, as well as those who are fluent, the dianchúrsa (intensive course) has attracted a range of top teachers from all parts of the council district which, in turn, will hopefully attract eager to learn attendees from several districts.

Financially supported both by Conradh na Gaeilge under their Ciste Spreagtha programme as part of Seactain na Gaeilge 2023 and Fermanagh and Omagh District Council’s 'Irish in the community' programme the course will also include a small exhibition of bi lingual posters

For Sruth na hÉirne’s volunteer organisers, the day long course starting at 9.30am in Fermanagh House represents a timely opportunity for students who are getting ready to go to the gaeltacht to immerse themselves both in the language and the many activities organised through the medium of Irish.

For adults , the course is an open house for those first timers to try and learn a few useful phrases that can be used throughout the summer both in Enniskillen where the native language is increasingly spoken or the gaeltacht areas of north and south Donegal. For Frank O'Reilly, a life long, self taught native gaeilgeoir and treasurer of Sruth na hÉirne, the course marks the end of a busy year for the group as numbers attending classes have grown beyond all his expectations.
