Ahead of their visit to Enniskillen on Thursday, May 25, King Charles III and Queen Camilla attended a garden party at Hillsborough Castle, Co. Down on Wednesday, May 24, which was also attended by a number of invitees from Co. Fermanagh.

The founder of the social enterprise Fermanagh Fun Farm, Alan Potters from Lisbellaw, was among those to receive an invite to the Royal garden party, which was the first public outing in Northern Ireland for The King and Queen since their Coronation earlier in May.

Speaking about his delight at having been invited to the Royal garden party, Alan told The Impartial Reporter that he has "no idea" who nominated him to receive the invitation.

"It was a bit of a surprise to receive the invitation in the post," said Alan, who was nominated for his work managing Fermanagh Fun Farm, where he looks after all the animals and takes in rescues, giving them a home for life.

"The envelope had a Royal crest on it and I said to staff here [at the fun farm], there's another tax bill," he laughed, adding: "I wasn't expecting [the invitation]. It was nice for somebody to take the time to fill in the application and nominate me for it."

For the special event, Alan took his mum Mary Potters as his guest. Together they had a very enjoyable day.

"There were tea and sandwiches in the gardens, and then King Charles and Queen Camilla came round and met everybody. They walked along a line and came up and spoke to everyone as well so we got to meet them. It was very special," he told this newspaper.

Other Fermanagh locals who attended the Royal garden party in Hillsborough included the High Sheriff for Fermanagh Noelle McAlinden, Gerry Murphy and Holly Bullock, to name a few.
