The NI Water Education Team has had a busy time in the area recently, visiting local schools to help educate pupils about a wide range of issues related to water, its use, tackling pollution and being more environmentally friendly.

Derrygonnelly Primary School pupils enjoyed the team’s visit, learning all about how to help tackle and reduce plastic pollution by refilling a reusable bottle from the tap.

NI Water provided all pupils at the school with reusable water bottles, therefore reducing the amount of single-use plastic water bottles that could potentially end up polluting our seas.

The team also visited pupils at St. Joseph’s PS Lisnaskea, where they heard all about the importance of water, how rainwater is cleaned and sewage treated, and also heard about the utility’s chosen charity, WaterAid, which works to help those with no access to safe water or sanitation.

Speaking about such school visits, NI Water’s Outreach and Learning Officer, Anna Killen, said: “NI Water places great importance on educating young people in the vital role water plays in our lives.

“NI Water are guardians of the infrastructure, the networks and assets, but every one of us uses the service. Only together, as a company and a community, can we continue to protect our most valuable and precious asset – water.

“We are delighted with the positive feedback we have received from schools who have participated in NI Water’s educational programme. It’s a fantastic way for us to deliver what matters for the local community and educate future generations of water users.”
