Gardaí say they are investigating "all the circumstances" surrounding the discovery of a body in the Border town of Clones, Co Monaghan at the weekend.
The deceased has been named locally as Mykola Dernovi. It is understood that Mr. Dernovi was a Ukrainian man living in Ireland and it is suspected that he may have been the victim of a sustained and vicious assault.
A Gardai spokesperson said: "Gardaí are investigating all the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a body in Clones on the night of Saturday, June 1.
"The body of a man was discovered at approximately 10pm at a residence at Clones, Monaghan.
"The scene was preserved for technical examination.
"The body has since been removed from the scene and a post-mortem examination is due to take place later this afternoon, the results of which will determine the course of the Garda investigation."
