Viscount Brookeborough, the Lord Lieutenant of County Fermanagh, has unveiled an Ulster History Circle Blue Plaque to his uncle, Field Marshal Viscount Alan Brooke.
Lord Brookeborough unveiled the plaque in Brookeborough village on the morning of June 6 as the world marked the 80th anniversary of D-Day.
Speaking at the unveiling, the Chairman of the Ulster History Circle, Chris Spurr, said: "Alan Francis Brooke, Viscount Alanbrooke, Chief of the Imperial General Staff from 1941 to 1946, is regarded as one of the foremost of all the heads of the British Army.
"He was an outstanding strategist who guided the Allies to victory in World War Two.
"On this, the 80th anniversary of D-Day, the Ulster History Circle is pleased to commemorate this distinguished soldier with a blue plaque in Brookeborough.
"The Circle is particularly grateful to the Ulster-Scots Agency for their financial support towards the plaque, and to Major Jack Dunlop MBE for his valued assistance."
