Historical human remains have been located in Monaghan, Gardaí have confirmed.
A human skull was found on the embankment on the newly opened Ulster Canal Greenway in the Clones area of the County on Sunday evening.
A Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí were alerted to historical human remains that were located at the Ulster Canal in Clones on the evening of Sunday, July 14, at approximately 5pm.
“Gardaí attended the scene and located a human skull on the embankment. It will be forwarded to a Forensic Anthropologist for examination.”
