The Northern Ireland Executive is facing delays in finalising a comprehensive Climate Action Plan.
The development of the plan is being spearheaded by the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA). The plan, which is a significant cross-cutting effort, is expected to require the approval of the Executive Committee.
However, as of now, the draft Climate Action Plan has not been shared with First Minister Michelle O'Neill and deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly, nor with other ministerial colleagues, for their consideration and sign-off.
Responding to an inquiry from Ms. Paula Bradshaw, MLA for South Belfast and a member of the Alliance Party of Northern Ireland (APNI), the First Minister and deputy First Minister stated: "To date, the draft Climate Action Plan has not been shared with us for consideration or sign off, along with other Ministerial colleagues."
Meanwhile, the establishment of the environmental working group at Fermanagh and Omagh District Council aims to reflect the council's commitment to tackling local environmental challenges, including sustainable development, conservation, and climate resilience. It is hoped councillors can create localised strategies that complement broader regional efforts.
