A well-known and highly regarded member of the Fermanagh community, Mrs. Margaret (Madge) Wilson passed away peacefully at the South West Acute Hospital on April 1, 2017, aged 93.

Late of Ballydoolagh, Enniskillen, the devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister was the dearly loved wife of the late Fred Wilson.

Formerly Madge Hurst, from Lissan, Garvary, she was educated at Derryhillagh School, where she remained until her teens.

She then went to live with her grandparents at Ballydoolagh, a few fields away from her home place. She helped her grandparents James and Margaret Coalter on the farm.

She married Fred Wilson in 1948 and they made their home at Largy, just above Garvary Church. The couple had a family of three: twin sons Noel and Cecil and a daughter Hazel.

Mrs. Wilson focused on raising her family. When her children were in their teens, she initially worked in Unipork on the evening shift and then joined the day shift.

She then worked in various other jobs and latterly as a carer in the community. In their latter years, she nursed her mother and grandmother.

Among the interests she enjoyed was the Mothers’ Union; she was one of the founder members of Garvary M.U. and she received her 60 years membership certificate in 2012.

After suffering from indifferent health, she became an indoor member of the M.U. In June last year, she went to the Bishop of Clogher’s House, The See House, Fivemiletown, for an afternoon tea event, which she greatly enjoyed.

A lifetime member of Garvary Parish Church, she would have been a Sunday School teacher in Garvary earlier in her life. She was a great supporter of the Church.

She also supported Fermanagh Unionist Association, and she was involved with the Cardiac Support Group.

Mrs. Wilson was a faithful member of any organisation that she ever became involved in.

She had been to Canada to visit her brother George (who passed away in 2016) and his wife and family on a number of occasions.

A recent enjoyable family event had been her attendance at her grandson Raymond and his wife Katie’s wedding in July 2016.

A much respected figure, she had a friendly caring nature; she made many friends along life’s way and will be greatly missed by all her friends and family.

Her funeral service at Garvary Parish Church was conducted by the Rev. Chancellor John Stewart. Burial was in the adjoining churchyard.

Mrs. Wilson is survived by her sons Noel and Cecil and by her daughter Hazel. She leaves seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Also surviving Mrs. Wilson are her brother Robert and her sister Gwen.
She was predeceased by her brother Jim in 1994 and by her brother George in 2016.

The funeral arrangements were by Funeral Directors, S.R. Elliott and Sons, Darling Street, Enniskillen. Donations in lieu will be to Garvary Parish Church c/o S.R. Elliott’s.
