Mr Samuel Beacom

The death has taken place of Samuel Beacom, Skeagh, Maguiresbridge at the County Care Nursing Home Enniskillen on January 15, 2019.

Samuel was born on May 5 1926, at Skeagh, and was the eldest child of the late James and Eliza Beacom and brother of Walter and Muriel and the late Desmond, John and Nora.

He attended Littlemount School until the age of 14. Upon leaving school Sam started working on the family farm. As the eldest of the family Sam took on the task of helping his mother look after his brothers and sisters when his father passed away at a young age.

Sam remained on the farm making flax and hay and growing vegetables such as turnips and potatoes. Sam worked with horses until he purchased his first tractor in 1973. He kept dairy cows and pigs, milking the cows by hand until his retirement in his late 60’s due to health reasons.

Sam served in the Home Guard during the war and in the Ulster Special Constabulary.

Sam was a great attender of his church in Maguiresbridge and travelled everywhere on his bicycle regularly visiting his brothers and sisters and other relations.

He continued to live on the farm until moving to Drumclay Nursing Home last April as he needed more specialised nursing care. His funeral service was held on January 17, 2019 in Christ Church Maguiresbridge conducted by Canon Mark Watson followed by interment in the adjoining graveyard.
