Dear Madam, - On behalf of Bright Eyes Animal Sanctuary, I would like to thank all those who took part in my recent online auction, via my Facebook page “Furry Friends Fundraiser”, which raised £1350. I created the Facebook page earlier this year with the intention of helping to raise funds for Bright Eyes, a charity for whom I have always had huge respect.

The auction was held over three days, and basically involved me posting pictures of my own items which I donated for the purpose of the fundraiser.

There was also some beautiful original artwork kindly donated by Terry Molloy, which proved extremely popular, and other items from fellow supporters.

Auction start and finish times were announced, with each item having a minimum starting bid. Over the course of the three days “bidders” then commented against the relevant picture as to what their bid was. The person with the highest bid when the auction ended was then the winner. It was a phenominal success, with great banter and craic as competition grew amongst bidders, and “the most expensive cat in Fermanagh”, a metal sculpture, was sold for £100.

Almost 100 items were listed for sale and every single one was sold. A true reflection of the generosity of all those involved.

Bright Eyes animal sanctuary is situated outside Ballinamallard, and was founded by the late Pat Nolan. It is run completely by volunteers, and they rely solely on donations from supporters and the general public to cover their costs. They are a lifeline for abandoned, unwanted and mistreated animals across the county and beyond. In addition to their rescue and rehoming work, they also promote spaying and neutering as the humane alternative to the destruction of unwanted animals, and provide advice on all aspects of animal welfare to the general public.

The funds raised from the auction will undoubtedly be a help to Simon, Mike and all the volunteers who continue their selfless work at Bright Eyes.

The online page will remain in place should any fellow animal lovers wish to join. I do intend to hold another auction over the summer months, so I would encourage people to come join the fun! The page will also provide information as to other forthcoming fundraising events for the charity. At present these include a street collection on May 22 in Enniskillen, and a Cake Sale in BT on May 29.

Once again, thanks to everyone who took part and have helped support Bright Eyes.
