Wellington Bowling Club recently held their Trevor Scott Memorial tournament with Michael Cairns winning the coveted title after some excellent bowling.
As always, the competition was very well supported with 139 entries over three nights. The final night saw 16 players returning.
In the quarter-finals William Boggs beat Tom McAleavey and Michael McGrade beat Sean Quinn from Cookstown. In the other section of the draw Rachael McDonnell beat Harry Gawley while Mark Cairns beat Sean Quinn. In the semi-final William Boggs beat Michael McGrade 8 shots to 4 and Mark Cairns defeated fellow club member Rachael McDonnell 7 shots to 4.
The final proved to have some more excellent bowling as after four ends the score was three each.
With a shot each the score was still equal after the sixth end at 4-4. But with Cairns edging one shot in the seventh and two more in the eighth endshe ended up victorious over William Boggs.
Club treasurer, Norman Noble thanked all who had supported the tournament over the week, he also thanked all who had marked and umpired games, and the Unionist Club for the use of their premises. He also thanked the ladies for the refreshing cup of tea and all those who helped with the smooth running of the tournament.
The prizes were presented by Stewart Scott and the cup was presented by Caroline Scott.
