Ballyclare High School 6
Enniskillen Collegiate 9

Enniskillen Collegiate retained the Danske Bank Girls Schools’ Cup title on Tuesday with a 9-6 win over Ballyclare High School.
With the school amalgamating with Portora Royal School to form Enniskillen Royal Grammar, this is the last time that the Collegiate name will appear as winners of the competition, the win seeing them lift the title for an eighth time.
It was the Enniskillen side who were first to register as captain Rebecca Pennell notched the first try after good work by Alison Glass.
And Glass added a second try soon after for the girls in green and red to make it 2-0.
Ballyclare pulled a score back when Lydia Mills touched down after a breakaway try but just before the break the Collegiate accounted for their third try as Sophie Coalter touched down in the corner to leave it 3-1 at half time to the Enniskillen school.
The sides exchanged tries early in the second half with Pennell scoring her second for the Collegiate after great footwork by Ellie Rix while Rebecca McConnell responded for Ballyclare High School to keep them within touching distance of the reigning champions.
Indeed, there was soon only one score between the sides when Zara McIlwaine went over for the High School’s third try to make it 4-3.
However, the Collegiate raised their game and went on to pull away from their opponents. two minutes after McIlwaine's try, the Collegiate hit back as Ellie Ingrim got through for a score to make it 5-3.
And more good play from Rix resulted in a try for Katie Hetherington and this was followed by a seventh try for the Enniskillen girls from Sophie Coalter to leave it 7-3.
With the teams tiring, Mills replied for Ballyclare but the Collegiate were always able to keep a gap between the sides as Ellie Ingrim registered her side’s eighth score.
This was followed up by Ingrim’s opposite number Sophie McDowell, who set up Laura McCowan for Ballyclare’s fifth try.
Ballyclare’s Laura McCowan and the Collegiates Emma Shaw traded tries late on and although McIlwaine touched down for her second try of the day for Ballyclare, it was once again the Collegiate’s day in the final as they finished up 9-6 winners to retain the cup.
