The 61st Erne Head of the River, postponed last week due to the weather, will take place this Saturday at 1.15pm.
Cancelled last week due to the heavy snow throughout the country, the rescheduled event will be down a few crews from the bumper 98 boats that were due to partake last week but still the level of competition will be intense and of the very top order.
The 6km course that begins beyond the Killyhevlin Hotel and finishes at the Boat Club past the Round O is one of the most demanding in the sport and as always has attracted top crews from throughout Ireland.
Enniskillen Royal Boat Club Head coach Derek Holland commented: “We would like to thank all the clubs for supporting us through this rescheduling due to the exceptional weather that we all experienced last weekend. We have left the draw as per March 3 with the exception of one or two small changes to some statuses of crews.”
The coach is expecting some top class rowing especially from the home club.
“The Club has a strong entry with six Eights entered and three Fours. I would expect our top crews to perform on the day against top opposition from Belfast, Galway and Dublin,” said Derek.
The 61st Erne Head will also see two Men’s Masters crew and a Ladies’ Masters’ crew taking to the water. The race starts at 1.15pm and good vantage points to watch the racing includes The Killyhevlin Hotel, Enniskillen Castle and the Round O.
