Fermanagh Premier manager Scott Robinson was delighted with the efforts of his players who finished the week at the Super Cup as Salver champions.
The week had started with a draw against a Club NI Select XI before back to back defeats to County Antrim and GO Audax from Brazil.
However, the side ended the week strongly with victories over New Zealand side Otago and Chilean side Deportes Iquique seeing them return home as only the second Fermanagh side to win silverware.
“For me, I could not have had a better bunch of players, they bought into everything that we were trying to do over the last six months and and the football they played was excellent the whole week.
“The worst game they had was probably the last 15 minutes against the Club NI side on the Monday because they were afraid to lose the game instead of just going out and winning it.
“Apart from that, though, they threw their bodies at everything and everyone of the 18 player was superb throughout the week.
“It is a wonderful opportunity for players to go away for a week and live as a professional.
“We treated them with respect and in fairness they then gave the same respect back to the management team and the players.” stated Robinson.
The former Ballinamallard Reserve boss was also full of praise for his backroom team.
“The backroom team were excellent, I could not have done it without them and the boys had a great respect for them which is important,” he added.
Robinson felt that everything ran smoothly off the pitch for the week and he believes that the fact that they had a regular pattern to each day helped to keep everybody relaxed.
“Things went really well. We had our itinerary right from Sunday evening through to the end of the week. We got up and had breakfast at 9am, we trained from 10am to 11.30am and then went back to the hotel. We had light lunch at 2pm, a team meeting at 2.45pm and then we were away to the game on the bus and we weren’t back to the hotel to 8.30pm each night. We did the same every day and the boys were very happy and content with that which was great.”
And he says that the relaxed nature of the squad was clearly evident going into the final against the South American side.
“The enjoyment for the lads was there for all to see before the game on the last day. They had their music on and were dancing around the dressing room before the final and it just showed how relaxed they were and then they went out and produced a great performance,” commented the Fermanagh manager.
Robinson is in no doubt about the quality that he had in the squad with Dean Corrigan having already signed for Dundee while he believes that others definitely have the potential to play at a high level.
“I see a bright future for a lot of the players.
“Obviously, Dean has signed for Dundee and I wish him the very best of luck, while there are also some other players being looked at which is great.
“I have no doubt also that a number of them will go on to play for the likes of Ballinamallard or in the Irish League, there is a lot of potential within that squad,” he concluded.
