Ederney 3-13 Erne Gaels 3-05

Ederney will play Derrygonnelly in the Senior Championship final following their 3-13 to 3-05 victory over Erne Gaels in Brewster Park tonight.

The St. Joseph's side looked to be cruising at the break as they deservedly held a 0-10 to 0-03 advantage.

However, their lead was wiped out within 12 minutes of the second half as Erne Gaels rallied through goals from Ultan Kelm and a Ryan Lyons penalty. But Mickey Cassidy's side regained the initiative and goals in quick succession from Mark McCauley and Ryan Morris put them back in the ascendancy and they pushed on from their for the win.

Ederney dominated the first half with a fluid attack giving Erne Gaels all sorts of problems.

And by the midway stage of the half they had started to pull away with Ryan Morris excellent in the full forward line.

Morris, Paul McCusker, Declan McCusker, Mark McCauley, Conor McGee and Aaron Dennison all landed points as they opened up a sizeable lead while Belleek's three first half points came from frees from Barry McCann, Tommy McCaffrey and Luke Ryder.

The lead was stretched out to eight at the start of the second half after McCauley clipped over a free but the game was turned on its head over the next ten minutes as Erne Gaels hit an unanswered 2-02 to level up proceedings.

A surging run by Ultan Kelm ended with him slotting the ball into the corner of the net to breathe life into the Erne Gaels challenge and this was followed by a McCaffrey free.

The Belleek men were then awarded a penalty after Paul McCusker was adjudged to have fouled Lyons and the full forward dusted himself down to convert the spot kick.

When Barry McCann quickly added on a point to tie the contest the momentum was all with Erne Gaels but Ederney responded with two goals of their own to but themselves back in the driving seat.

McGee teed up McCauley who finished soccer style to the corner and soon after good play by Marty McGrath and Paul McCusker saw the ball worked to Morris who tucked it to the net to make it 2-11 to 2-05.

Erne Gaels continued to battle and Barry McCann bagged a third goal for them but Ederney made absolutely sure of the victory when Pol McKervey fired home in added on time to send his side through to a first final since 2006.
