It’s four New York Cups on the trot for Derrygonnelly but the desire and hunger for success is as evident as ever if Sunday is anything to go by.

The holders gained control of the contest midway through the first half and bossed matters in every sector from this to the finish as they ran out comfortable winners.

And Harps joint manager Brendan Rasdale stresses that they are determined to maximise this golden period in the club’s history.

Derrygonnelly will now move into the Ulster Club arena and a meeting against either Scotstown or Ballybay but Rasdale states that before that they will focus on a league semi-final against Kinawley this weekend.

“My next worry is Kinawley next Sunday, I would never look beyond the next team and once that’s over we will look at the next game.

“Look, we have to plan for the Monaghan champions as well whether that is Scotstown or Ballybay.

“And what I will say, we are ambitious to maximise what we have in the Fermanagh league and the Ulster Club. We are an ambitious club,” he said.

It’s now four in a row for the Harps but Rasdale says that they savour every win the same.

“You have to appreciate every chance you get at the top table and you have to grab it. I remember when we were starting out in the late 80s and early 90s we had to fight with every fingernail to get up to the area we got up to in the mid 90s, mid 2000s and now this spell, and we appreciate every second we are at it.

“This one is no less precious than any of the other titles we have won,” he said.

Going into Sunday’s clash there was a thought in some quarters that, despite having a 100 percent record in the league, Derrygonnelly weren’t the same team as they had been this last few years. However, Rasdale felt that the effort was there and it was only a matter of time before they clicked as they did on Sunday.

“There was definitely a hint that we didn’t want it as badly as we used to and we didn’t have the same unity of purpose that we had but I knew that was there and it was about us clicking.

“Our effort levels, even in the games we won but didn’t play great, were top drawer. Today we had all that and we clicked and that’s why we won that game. It’s a simple thing, we had literally everybody deliver and it is very rarely that you get that and we were lucky to get it in a final.”

Ederney had got off to a flying start as they opened up an early two point lead but the Harps soon settled and Ryan Jones gave them a lead they were never to relinquish.

“Even when they went 0-03 to 0-01 up, you ride the first ten minutes, you don’t panic and then you exert yourself on them.

“No question the key moment was the first goal.

“We seemed to find space on the right and Deccy popped a lovely ball to Ryan and he showed great composure to finish. That set us up and we pushed on from there,” acknowledged Rasdale.
