This year’s Spooktacular 5K run is on course to exceed last year’s record turnout of over 1200 participants.

The popular night time run, the biggest of its kind in Ireland, will see runners take to the streets of Enniskillen this Friday night and entries are currently above where they were at this stage last year.

“Numbers at the minute are exceeding what they were last year and you always get people who enter late on the week as well,” said Spooktacular Race Director Dessie Elton.

Online registration closed last night but for those keen to take part they can register from 6.30pm-9pm on Thursday October 25 at St. Michael’s Community Hall or from 5.30pm-6.30pm sharp on Friday.

Spooktacular race-packs including race number and t-shirts can be collected at the same times and venue.

There will be prizes worth £1500 up for grabs on the night including the winners prizes as well as the much coveted Martin Dillon Trophy for the first local runner to cross the line.

“Martin was the first Spooktacular race director and the driving force behind the event.

“Sadly, Martin passed away three years ago this week but his memory lives on with the Spooktacular and the Martin Dillon Trophy,” said Dessie.

The Spooktacular offers something for everybody from the elite sub 15 minute runner, to the club runner, families and those that complete the race in fancy dress.

Indeed, the fancy dress and family aspect is a big part of the success of the event and there are some smashing prizes up for grabs for the best fancy dressed.

In a change to previous Spooktaculars, the fancy dress winners will be selected before the start of the race so anyone interested in winning one the prizes, which include hampers sponsored by Erne Pharmacy, are asked to congregate around the Clinton Centre between 6.45pm and 7pm where winner rossettes will be handed out for prize collection after race.

The race itself will get underway at 7.30pm from Belmore Street and will conclude in High Street with prizegiving then taking place at Pat’s Bar.

“”We are very grateful to the Cadden family and Pat’s Bar who kindly sponsor our after party and have done for several years,” added Dessie.
