112 rowers from Enniskillen Royal Boat Club (J13-J18) went to Castleconnell Head of the River near Limerick last Saturday for the first race of the season.

They raced in 22 eights as well as fours with many of the young rowers competing in their first ever race having just started rowing at the beginning of September.

This event was a great start for the Club with category wins for the MJ18 8+ who were the second fastest crew over the course, narrowly beaten by UCDBC, and the WJ18 8+ who were the fastest ladies crew on the day. They started the new season on a high continuing their winning streak from last season. There were also wins for MJ18 4X- and MJ18 4+, MJ 14 8X+, MJ 16 8+. , WJ18 8+ and WJ 18 4 X-.

The coxes had a difficult task with the wind but they all did a fantastic job.

Head Coach Derek Holland said: “It was a great weekend and good to get everyone racing in mixed crews. Crews showed great strength and depth even though some key rowers were missing. Saturday saw lots of new people rowing and it was a great experience for them.”
