Fermanagh may be within touching distance of promotion to Division One but experienced midfielder Ryan Jones says that their only focus is on getting a performance against Armagh in Crossmaglen on Saturday afternoon.

There is still work to be done if the Ernemen are to seal a top two spot in Division Two and Jones is not about to get carried away with the prospect of what might be.

“We’ll just go out with the aim of trying to win a game and get two points and if it works out for us then well and good. The main thing for us though is just to make sure that every man is tuned in. Crossmaglen is not an easy place to go but we have been training very hard and we have been playing well as a collective unit so we’ll just be looking to get a performance and get the two points and we’ll see where we are at after that,” he said.

It could well be a tense afternoon with results elsewhere in the division also crucial but no matter about what is going on any where else, Fermanagh need to win, first and foremost and Jones stresses that they have no interest in what will be happening at our games.

“We’ll not be looking at what’s happening elsewhere or worrying about what other teams or doing. At the end of the day it will be about us and Rory will have it drilled in that we have to get our own performance right. We can’t be relying on anyone else to do us a favour,” he said.

While Fermanagh are pushing for promotion, there is plenty at stake for Armagh who will be looking to go on and secure their status in Division Two for 2019. And Jones feels that Kieran McGeeney’s side have been unfortunate in some of their games.

“In fairness to Armagh, they have been very close in a lot of their games. They drew with Kildare and maybe could have got the win and they drew with Clare who caught them with a last minute goal. They were also unlucky against Donegal the last day out when it went down to the wire so it can be small margins. We know it is going to be a tough game, there is a lot at stake for Armagh as well and it is an Ulster derby so you would expect it to be physical but we’ll be looking to start well and hopefully get a performance that lasts for the 70 minutes,” said the Derrygonnelly man.

Division Two is highly competitive and with every team capable of taking points from any other side. For that reason, Fermanagh have taken it game by game and that has served them well to date. And Saturday is simply the the next game for Jones and his team-mates.

“You can’t take for granted what you have done to date, it is about the next match. We have looked no further ahead than the next game throughout the league and the most important game is the next one which for us is Armagh and whatever had happened beforehand is gone. As I’ve said, all we are looking at is getting a performance and if we do that hopefully the result will look after itself,” he concluded.
