Enniskillen Royal Grammar School pupil Sophia Williams made her debut for the Irish Cross Country team running at an International Schools’ event at Santry, Dublin at the weekend.
Sophia (14) was selected as one of four Ulster athletes to make up the Irish squad running against the top athletes from English, Welsh and Scottish schools.
While the event was dominated by the English schools who seemed to favour the 3km flat fast course, Sophia had an excellent race crossing the line in an impressive time of 11.23 and a top 30 placing.
Many household names have started their athletics career at the International Schools Cross Country event and Sophia is hoping that this is only the start of an international athletics career.
