Lisbellaw Electrician Craig Scollan was named the Star rider of the Day at the recent season opener of the IMC Pit Bike Series at Mondello Park.

The iconic Mondello Track was a new venue for the Pit Bike competitors, giving these riders a chance to see what an open track is like, and it certainly proved a hit with all competitors. For Scollan, who began racing on grass tracks ten years ago, it was a day to remember, mechanical gremlins struck the local lad in practice, but thanks to the McGowan Brothers and Jonny Browne, Craig made the grid for his race, albeit, had to start from the back row!.

The Fermanagh Flyer, a fan of the late Richard Britton, and also has an interest in Rallying, where he has helped out navigating with Marc Johnston in his Ford Escort, and also with reigining Irish Champion, William Mavitty in their Mitsubishi Evo 9 car, soon got the bit between his teeth, as he carved his way through the field of no less than 22 competitors ( the largest grid of the day!) to take the lead, and then proceeded to pull away, going on to win by an amazing five seconds, thus earning him the GCM&E Star Rider of the Day award!

Craig now looks forward to round two of the IMC Series which takes place at Kirkistown, another iconic race track, on Saturday 13th April.
