Former NFC Kesh hot shot Nicky Noble selects the best Fermanagh and Western side that he has played against

Goalkeeper

Trevor Morrison

Paddy was the most outstanding goalkeeper that I played against and was a key player for Killen Rangers when he was there. He was a good shot stopper, commanded his area well and was good on the ball.

It was no surprise that Ballinamallard came in for him and he that he was a success there.

Right Back

Adrian Lecky

Adrian would have been the first man I came up against when we faced Dergview and he was a really tough opponent. He had everything, he was athletic, could get up and down the pitch all day long and was hard but fair. Just a good player.

Centre Half

Marty Flanagan

The Strathroy man was one of the most composed footballers that you could come across. Nothing fazed him, he was unflappable and always looked in control of what he was doing. Marty always looked to play the ball out and rarely gave the ball away. A really impressive defender.

Centre Half

Conor McGuigan

Conor was part of a really strong Shelbourne side playing alongside Mickey O’Sullivan at the back.

He was a strong player who was good in the air and was as hard as nails and an important part of that team at the time.

Left Back

Willie Balfour

I really liked Willie as a player. He was a good footballer who had a great left peg and he was also very fit and that allowed him to get up and down the pitch for Rangers. Willie also had the medals to show for a great career.

Right Midfield

Tommy Nethery

Tommy was a tricky winger who could take you on the outside or cut inside and take you on that way. He created a lot of goals for the Dergview side that he played in and he also chipped in with a few goals as well. A real good footballer.

Centre Midfield

Gerry Love

Gerry could talk the talk and walk the walk, if you wanted to play football he could do that but he could also mix it up if you wanted to do it that way. He was what you wanted in a midfielder and he is another who has won it all with Rangers.

Centre Midfield

Victor Doherty

I would describe Victor as a Roy Keane-esque type of player. He was box to box, had a great engine and was not afraid to get stuck in. He was a vital player in that Dergview side of the 90s.

Left Midfield

Rory Judge

Moved back later in his career to centre half where he was also accomplished but I remember him best further up the pitch. He was some player, he had a great left foot, he was very powerful and he could play a pass. He also was the scorer of key goals for Enniskillen Town.

Striker

Trevor Donnelly

Trevor was a real class act for Shelbourne. He might have done nothing the whole game but he would then pop up with the winner into the top corner. He was a lethal finisher and had all the qualities of a top class striker.

Striker

Gary Dickson

Gary would chase down every ball when you played against Dergview and was a classic centre forward. He was athletic and he knew how to finish. A very good footballer.

I have had the opportunity to play against a lot of good players in my time playing Fermanagh and Western football and there is no doubt that I could have picked two or three different teams and they would all have been good sides.

Defensively you could have had the likes of Mickey Farry at Enniskillen Town who I rated highly or Strathroy duo Seamus Fanthorpe and Benny Boyle, two top performers. I didn’t really play a lot against Michael Kerr who is quality and then you had the likes of Gordy Lee at Ballinamallard.

In midfield you had options like Kevin Sloan, Roger Howe, Julian Nixon and Ossie Corrigan while more recently Willie Burleigh has always impressed me for Rangers but again I didn’t play against him that much.

Further forward then there was Gary Beckett who again I didn’t really play much against as he moved on to bigger and better things, you had the two Cutler boys, Gordon and John, at Rangers and if I was picking players from my own club then Shane O’Brien and Mark Jones would in the side.
