Strathroy Harps defender Benny Boyle selects the best Fermanagh and Western XI that he has played against

I have played against a lot of very good players during my time in the Fermanagh and Western so this was a tough team to pick and even picking 20 players instead of 11 would have been difficult.

I have went with players who we would have come up against when we were going for leagues and that and in the end I have settled on a 3-4-3 formation.

Obviously, there are a lot of players who would have been considered with the likes of Conor Tummon, Frank Wallace and Ryan Hanna all unlucky to not be included. Also there are players like Cathal Beacom and James McKenna who I probably didn’t play against enough but who are terrific players.

Goalkeeper

Trevor Morrison - Killen Rangers

‘Paddy’ was an outstanding keeper, he had cat like reflexes and I never remember him having a bad game. He was a massive presence and good with the ball at his feet. Willie McFrederick would have pushed him close, we had some good battles with Lisbellaw.

Centre Half

Nicky Dunbar - Enniskillen Santos/Enniskillen Town

Nicky’s quick, great with the ball at his feet and loved coming out with it while he could mix it as well. I always wondered why he didn’t play at a higher level, I just thought he was a fantastic player.

Centre Half

Raymie Carroll - Lisbellaw United

Raymie is probably the most underrated player in the team. He always gave as good as he got, hard in the tackle and fantastic in the air in both boxes.

Centre Half

Michael Kerr - Enniskillen Rangers

Kerr has a wand of a left foot and scored some unreal goals. He has been a real leader for Rangers since they have come on strong and he can defend as well.

Right Midfield

Christopher Currie - Enniskillen Rangers

An unbelievable talent. He would drop the shoulder and leave you for dead and then come back and take you on again. I don’t know why he is not in more people’s teams but I thought he was one of the best I played against. His touch was second to none and he could also score goals.

Centre Midfield

Kyle McCleery - Lisbellaw United

Kyle was a leader of all leaders. Great in the tackle, he could break up play and he could play ball too. He also weighed in with an odd goal as well. A great competitor and somebody you would want in the middle of the park.

Centre Midfield

William Burleigh - Enniskillen Rangers

A super servant to Rangers and very, very effective in the middle of the pitch. He scored goals, especially in big games and invariably when Rangers needed a goal he would pop up with one. He was a real thorn in our side over the years, a real leader and I have a lot of respect for him. He would be my captain.

Left Midfield

Mark Cutler - Enniskillen Rangers

An absolutely flying machine and I never enjoyed playing against him at all. If you gave him space at all he would absolutely crucify you and he is another who has scored some big goals. A good player and would like to see how he would cope playing at a higher level.

Striker

Paul McGrath - Lisbellaw United

Paul is a wonderful player. He is an intelligent player who can hold the ball, could play a pass and would weigh in with goals. He has good feet and is a leader for Lisbellaw when we were going up against them. A top player and a great lad as well.

Striker

Mark Jones - NFC Kesh

Jones is a goal scorer galore. Maybe not as pacy as he used to be but very strong and knows where the goal is. He might not have got in behind you for 90 minutes but you still had to watch him because he always was able to sneak in and get a goal.

Striker

Gary Maguire - Irvinestown Wanderers

Mason is a super player and I’m surprised he also hasn’t been in more teams. He scores goals, is excellent from dead balls and has a lovely touch. A great player and servant for Irvinestown throughout the years.
