The Fermanagh and Western Football League are proposing to start the new season on Saturday September 19.

With last season having been finallly concluded this week, thoughts have turned to the 2020/21 season with the league's Management Committee having met last night.

September 12 had been bandied about as a possible start date for the season but it was felt that this date was too tight with rule amendments needed to be made.

The Management Committee have also proposed that the transfer window closes on Friday September 18, remaining in line with the Friday before the the start of the season.

League Chairman Neil Jardine is hoping that clubs will show flexibility in the season ahead.

"We will be looking for flexibility from clubs in rule amendments and rules affected by Covid that we don't want to change," he said.

It is expected that the league will look at the possiblility of playing some midweek fixtures under lights at 3G facilities in the area for Division One clubs while they will also seek flexibility on kick off times to allow for two games on the same day at the one venue, if needed.

Management Committee will also recommend that for next season only that four clubs are relegated from Division One to bring the numbers back to 12 for the following season.

In terms of trophy presentation for last year's league winners, the league will write to the successful clubs to arrange a suitable time for this to take place.

The league's AGM is scheduled for Tuesday September 1.
