Derrygonnelly manager Sean Flanagan says there will be no major surprises for either team when the Harps take on Ederney in next Sunday’s Senior Championship decider at Brewster Park.

The Harps, who are seeking a sixth New York Cup on the bounce, secured their place in another final with victory over Kinawley on Friday night but Flanagan knows that Ederney will pose a different challenge for the holders.

“Every team in Fermanagh knows the other team really, really well and there is probably nothing that Ederney can do that will surprise us and there is certainly nothing that we will do that will shock Ederney. It is a question of who performs on the day,” he said.

“Ederney have been playing really well in an offensive sense, they have a lot of good attacking players and we will have to do our best to try and reduce the amount of possession they get and then try to use the possession we have well.

“Ederney are very motivated to win a county championship and we are fully aware of what Ederney will bring to it,” he said.

On Friday night the Harps were too strong for Kinawley, bossing things for long periods although they were wasteful in front of the posts.

“We would be pretty happy with many aspects of our performance although we are not blind and there are obviously areas of our performance that weren’t good enough and need improvement. Look, you take the result, that was the important thing and then you look at where you can improve,” he said.

Two first half goals had put Derrygonnelly in a strong position and they were very controlled from this through to the finish.

“The goals were crucial for us and they probably impacted on Kinawley’s confidence.

“They also gave us that bit of control and it put us in a position where we could manage the game without having to take too many risks.

“Kinawley had a good spell immediately after half time but they probably didn’t make that count and we weathered that and were able to see it out,” he added.
