Ederney manager, Mickey Cassidy knows his players will have to leave it all out on the pitch if they are to put an end to Derrygonnelly's dominance in the Senior Championship.

For a number of years they have been seen as the side that looked most likely to topple the Harps but that promise has not come to fruition yet.

On Sunday, the St. Joseph's outfit will take to the field in the second Senior decider in three years and they will be hoping for a better outcome than the 2018 final.

A 12 point point defeat saw Derrygonnelly make it four county titles in a row, but Cassidy and his charges are determined to put in a better performance this time round.

"We felt the last time we played we didn’t do ourselves any justice. Whether it was more the occasion than the actual game we don't know," said Cassidy.

He admits the memories of the poor showing in 2018 will be added motivation for his side but admits that the only thing his side can control is what happens on the field and hopefully it will play some part in producing the type of performance Ederney are capable of.

"It is extra motivation but at the end of the day when you look at it, it is a game of football which is going to be 70 minutes long or thereabouts and all that goes with is neither here nor there. It is what matters on the field. Its what happens in that time. Everything else is out of your control really."

Ederney have seen off Belnaleck and Teemore on their way to the final and in both game while they were the better side there were periods when they were put under pressure, especially from high balls in on top of their full back line.

Cassidy is pleased by how his team responded to the set backs in those games, but one thing he has felt "aggrieved" about is some of the refereeing decisions which saw his side concede penalties in both fixtures.

"I am happy with the response of the team but we are going to need to show more of it a hell of a lot more against Derrygonnelly because they won't blink. The have been about too long.

"I do think that in the last two matches we have been give against us very soft penalties and I can't understand them. I have studied video over and over again and can't understand why they were given. I feel very aggrieved by the penalties against us."

Many of Cassidy's players were involved in that final but there has been an injection of new faces such as Jacob Britton, Oran McGee and Luke Harron which Cassidy hopes will give his side a little extra this time around against a Harps side that have been at the pinnacle of Fermanagh football for the last six years.

"We know rightly they are red hot favourites. There is nothing we can do about that but all we can do about is hope we get the performance out of our players on the day.

"Whether people like their style of football or not it’s a style of football that suits them and you have to give them credit they play to their strengths. They are a very hard team to break down, they are very strong up the centre and they have a defence that is as good as maybe anyone in Ulster. They have a strong midfield and forwards that could hurt you on the day.

"We are going to need everybody to perform on the day to win," added Cassidy.
