Derrygonnelly and Ederney are set to go head to head at Brewster Park on Sunday evening in the Senior Football Championship final.

Here are some of the possible key battles that could decide Sunday's final

Shane McGullion v Mark McCauley

McGullion is a launchpad for a lot of Derrygonnelly attacks with his pace, but he may have to curb this to quell the threat of McCauley, who has been in fine form for Ederney.

Popping up with goals at crucial times against Belnaleck and Ederney helped his side book their place in the decider, and he will have to be at his best if he is to get the better of McGullion.

Despite missing the semi-final win over Kinawley, McGullion will not be found wanting.

He has come to make the centre back spot his own for the Harps, and is part of a half back line that loves to get forward to help the attack.

If he can put McCauley on the back foot, he will have gone a long way to nullifying one of Ederney’s biggest threats.

Marty McGrath and Oran McGee v Ryan Jones and Stephen McGullion

THERE’S a huge amount of physicality on both sides around the middle of the park.

In Ryan Jones, Derrygonnelly have probably the most influential club player in the county; someone who always seems to make the right decision on the ball.

McGullion alongside him is one of the most improved players in the county who covers plenty of space.

Not afraid to mix it physically on kickouts where he is well able to catch ball or send straight back down the field, he has added a scoring threat to his game as well

McGrath is still going strong and Ederney will look to him to give a foothold around the middle. With McGee beside him for a bit more of the running, if McGrath can get the better of Jones – forcing him to drop deep to win the ball – it may lessen the influence the big Harps player has on the game.

Declan Cassidy v Declan McCusker

THESE are two hugely experienced players who give their all for their teams.

Cassidy is brilliant at disrupting the flow of opposition key men, and he could well be given the task of doing that on Sunday, and of tracking McCusker.

McCusker is a powerful ball carrier who can turn defence into attack in an instant, and can also pop up with a score or two.

Cassidy will want to turn it into a dogfight and take the Ederney half back out of his comfort zone for as long as he can.

Like Derrygonnelly’s half back line, Ederney have a solid platform to launch attacks, and McCusker will be crucial to that.

Cassidy is well able to pop up as well with a score or crucial assist, so it will be interesting to see this battle if they line up opposite each other.
