NFC Kesh 6 Mountfield 1

NFC Kesh continued their unbeaten start to the season with a resounding 6-1 win over Mountfield at Michael Connolly Park on Saturday.

The home side dominated from the first whistle as a brace from Mark Jones as well as efforts from Niall McMenamin and Kyle Malone helped them into a 4-0 half time advantage.

The visitors did pull a goal back at the start of the second half but Corrie Lee Bogan and Lee Walker replied for Kesh to wrap up a comfortable afternoon for Scott Robinson’s charges.

“I thought it was another very good performance,” said Robinson. “The boys are listening to what we are telling them and are doing what we want them to do and everyone is pulling in the one direction.

“We know that there are bigger tests ahead but we were delighted with how the boys applied themselves on Saturday.

“We are just happy to have another three points on the board and we are looking forward to another tough game against Dergview this week.”

Kesh kept possession well in the early stages of Saturday’s contest and Jones had a shot that flew just wide while Walker was denied by the goalkeeper before the opening goal arrived in the 12th minute.

Jordan Cadden’s corner was punched out to the edge of the box by the away keeper but it was met by Jones on the half volley who returned the ball with interest to the back of the net.

And within two minutes the home outfit had doubled their money as Walker played a one-two with Jake Irvine before being upended as he broke into the box. Jones stepped up from the resultant spot kick to fire home and make it 2-0.

Kesh continued to create chances and with 25 minutes gone they added a third. Cadden’s corner was headed back across the goal by Malone and although McMenamin’s initial header was saved, he followed up to hammer home the rebound.

And it got even better for the home team on the half hour mark as they made it four. Walker broke down the left and whipped in a delightful cross for Malone to race on to and fire home to leave it 4-0 at the interval.

Mountfield did come out all guns blazing at the start of the second half and a mix up on the edge of the Kesh box did allow the away side to get in to pull a goal back - the first that Kesh have conceded this season.

It wasn’t long though before Kesh were again threatening at the other end with Jones having a shot tipped over the bar before Corri Bogan registered his first goal for the club with a well placed shot into the bottom right hand corner.

The home side were not done there either as four minutes later they grabbed their sixth of the day. Nigel Beacom cut the ball back and Walker produced a lovely flicked back heel finish to round off a good day for the home side.
