Fermanagh captain Courteney Muprhy is hopeful of playing some part on Saturday when Fermanagh take on Wicklow in the All Ireland Junior Championship final at Parnell Park, Dublin.

Murphy missed the last two games through injury and admits that it has been frustrating to watch the games from the sidelines.

“Missing out on the last two games was tough but hopefully I will play on Saturday. It is not ideal watching it from the sidelines but hopefully on Saturday the girls will get the job done and I will be able to play some sort of part of it,” she said.

Murphy was part of the Fermanagh side that lost last year’s final to Louth but she is hoping that the experience gained from that defeat will stand to them.

“I think it gave us a lot of experience, we know now that finals are not easy won and it was more disappointing that we didn’t perform well ourselves that day.

“You can’t dwell too much on it but hopefully it gives us that bit of extra experience as well as a bit of an extra edge this Saturday,” she said.

Courteney featured in the opening game in this year’s competition as Fermanagh went down to Wicklow and she knows that Fermanagh are going to have to be on top of their game to limit a strong Wicklow side.

“They are a very physical team and they have a very strong full forward line and we seen what they scored against Antrim in the semi-final, they have a lot of power up front but hopefully we can contain them at the back,” said the Kinawley player who stresses that Fermanagh have plenty of fire power of their own.

“When you look at what Eimear Smyth can do every week and Joanne Doonan too. Then you have the new girls like Roisin McDonald and Sarah McCausland who have got their chance and done really well. We also have a good forwards coming off the bench so we have a strong forward line as well.”

And she is hoping that Fermanagh can maintain the momentum that they have built up since that loss to Wicklow.

“We started off against Wicklow and we know ourselves that wasn’t a good game but it was our first game back and it was always going to be a tough one especially as they had already played a game.

“I think we were a lot better against Carlow and then against Limerick we were great and hopefully we can keep that momentum going now on Saturday.”

Fermanagh Ladies are currently fundraising to help support their bid for the All Ireland and Murphy says that they are very grateful for the support they have received to date.

“You are not able to do the normal fundraisers that you would when you get to an All Ireland final but I think the go fund me page has been going really well and we are just so grateful for all the support that we have got as we know that it is not an easy time for businesses at the minute.

“Every little donation is much appreciated and hopefully now we can give back to that support and come out with a win on Saturday.”
