THIS is a small glimpse of the sports people and teams that have made the headlines in the sports pages of The Impartial Reporter on this week’s down through the years.

The New Year is usually a busy time for sport and it was no different in 2011 when Conor McGuigan struck deep into added on time to give Ballinamallard the derby spoils from their clash with Dergview.

Dergview had taken the lead through a Johnny Lafferty screamer but McGuigan hit back to level for the Ducks before then grabbing the winner at the death.

In rugby, it was Skins who took the derby plaudits on Christmas week in 2005 as they defeated Clogher Valley 10-3 at Mullaghmeen.

Richie Finlay scored the only try of the encounter to copper-fasten his side’s mid table position in the Qualifying One league table.

There was also success for Fivemiletown College senior netball squad who won the Tyrone Schools’ Cross Community Netball League title in 2010 while in bowls Brendan Collins and James McCaffrey of St. Michael’s Bowling Club clinched the Wesley Phair Pairs title at the Lakeland Forum.
