THIS is a small glimpse of the sports people and teams that have made the headlines in the sports pages of The Impartial Reporter on this week down through the years.
Garry Jennings took his first ever Galway International Rally victory with a convincing start to finish win in treacherous conditions in 2016. It was a successful event for local drivers with Alastair Fisher also making the podium, finishing third overall, while William Mavitty claimed second spot in Group N.
In the MacRory Cup, St. Michael’s and St. Patrick’s Armagh played out a draw in the quarter-final of the competition in 2001.
In hockey, also in 2001, Enniskillen 2nds secured their place in the Junior Cup semi-final with a 3-1 victory over Armagh.
A late James Moore try saw Skins 1st XV saw them clinch a first ever Ulster Senior Cup win as they edged out Ards 11-6 in 1996. The sides were level at 6-6 as the contest moved into injury time but Moore touched down to seal the victory.
St. Joseph’s Enniskillen enjoyed double success as they landed the U-13 and U-15 titles at the Fermanagh and Western Schools’ 5-a-side competition at the Lakeland Forum in 1991.
