THIS is a small glimpse of the sports people and teams that have made the headlines in the sports pages of The Impartial Reporter on this week down through the years.

In GAA, Fermanagh made it two wins out of two in NFL Division 1A with a memorable win over the reigning All-Ireland champions, Tyrone, in Brewster Park in 2006.

This was an excellent team display from the home side with Barry Owens immense at the back as he put the shackles on Tyrone’s star forward, Stephen O’Neill, while Ciaran O’Reilly rattled over three points from play.

Irvinestown’s Conan Whitley was in fine form at the U-16 Ulster Regional Matchplays at the Bawnacre in 2016. Whitley qualified for the Provincial Matchplays with a 100 per cent record.

Enniskillen Ladies hockey team maintained their mid-table position in the league with a 0-0 draw against Banbridge in 2001.

At the E District Cross-Country Championships in 1996, there was a silver medal for the St. Fanchea’s Junior Girls team.

Meanwhile, in rugby, a youthful Enniskillen Ladies lost out to Cooke in the Ulster Plate semi-final in 2011.
