LEONA Maguire has enjoyed a fine start to 2021 on the LPGA Tour as she followed up her 16th-place finish at the Gainbridge Championship with a tie for sixth place at the Drive On Championship on the Golden Ocala course in Florida last weekend.
The 26-year-old went into Sunday’s final round in a tie for 11th after slipping out of the top 10 during the third round.
The Cavan golfer got her fourth round off to a poor start as she bogeyed the first and second holes, but birdies at five, six and seven got her back on track, and Maguire finished strongly with back-to-back birdies to seal a tie for sixth.
Maguire’s five-under-par total left her 10 shots behind winner, US player Austin Ernst.
The result moves Leona up 39 places in the latest world rankings, to 128th.
